We’re ending the month with a SECOND music-movie, and this time it’s related to our weekly Nashville TV Show Recap podcast BACKSTAGE AT THE BLUEBIRD. Johnny loves the city of Nashville, and he’s excited to see the acclaimed Robert Altman ensemble drama. Andrew, meanwhile, is worried at the film’s length and Altman’s inherent unfocussed, improvised, overlapping-dialogue nature. Will things work out well? Will information regarding Disney’s cinema release plans of the year make the second half semi-engaging?

It’s the sequel to Get Shorty and we’re in a post-Snyder Cut world, what could go wrong? We love music, we love cinema, one of us loves the last time Travolta and Thurman danced together, this should be a lay-up.
Why does the return of Chili Palmer not work, and how much Aerosmith is allowed before things stop being cool? It’s a rough watch, and we try to make the most of it.

From a comedy western to a western with comic elements, it’s time to get some Paul Newman Eyes in the mix, and the eternal charm of Robert Redford. Johnny has never much experienced either of them, and certainly not the palpable chemistry of the duo on screen, so what better time to pull this trigger? And since it’s the day before Zack Snyder’s Justice League drops, we make bold predictions all over the show as to what the 4 hours, 1 minute and 28 seconds contain.

What is pandemic brain cinema anyway?

Life, oh life, oh life, doo doot doot doo.
Johnny mentioned he also hadn’t seen the Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence movie ‘Life’ and since it is streaming, unlike a lot of films, Andrew has allowed an entire episode surrounding a film he once rented as a kid, expecting a wild comedy, and rewound and returned before the first hour was up. Will the last hour make up for Baby Andrew’s experiences?

Johnny mentioned he hasn’t seen the infamous mid-90s black comedy, and Andrew, the man that he is, loves The Cable Guy so much and wants to hold Johnny’s hand through his first time. A week off and refreshed, it’s time to take a look at Jodie Foster’s Death Wish drama, with discussions on Jared Leto and Rami Malek in The Little Things, what your vigilante name would be and Foster’s Erica Bain and her best friend Gunny. This is a silly silly episode with some strong language.

It’s time to pitch the worst podcast in the world, a guaranteed flop, this show won’t last the night! It’s Mel Brooks’ masterpiece of comedy satire, and NOT the Broadway musical or film adaptation of the Broadway musical, despite Johnny’s best efforts. We’re going back to the source, taking a fine sip of Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder, and pitching a Star Wars musical that’ll make big bucks for those behind the show, and nobody else.
225 - SNAKES ON A PLANE
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
We have had it with these monkey-fighting movies on this Monday-to-Friday podcast.
Johnny hasn’t seen Snakes On A Plane, so for very little reason it’s time to revisit the 2006 internet phenomenon that never quite found footing in the real world. Also, a DVD Leaflet advertisement game, and pitches for further Snake-ventures!
224 - SOUTHLAND TALES - THE CANNES CUT
Here we go, the one everyone’s been demanding. Andrew discovered that Universal has had the Cannes Cut of the iconic sci-fi apocalypse comedy satire on iTunes for a while, and as the Arrow blu ray release comes closer, it’s time to show Johnny not only Southland Tales, but the 160 minute thicker version, with less exposition and more comic asides. Johnny is not on board, but Andrew’s new twin Aaron seems happy with the situation, and offers an option to make the world end.
223 - SOUL
The new Pixar pic brings the joys of death, existential dread and meaninglessness to children! Johnny has waited to watch this for the podcast, but Andrew has taken a trip through the soul already, what will be the end result, and will anything matter after all of this? Happy 2021!

What a perfect film to remind you of the mayhem of Christmas past, as we sit alone in our pandemic world, feeling every emotion and waiting for something good to come. Max and the Wild Things are 2020, and Andrew and Johnny and friends Jim Broadbent and Paul Giamatti ease the Christmas fear for another season.
