Ending the season in true BATB fashion, Johnny takes Andrew through the second season’s second soundtrack release. Join the two as they go track-by-track through the highs, lows and mids of Nashville’s rocking, harmonising music.
045 - ON THE OTHER HAND
It’s the Season 2 finale and the air-con is busted backstage, so Andrew and Johnny melt and sweat whilst touching on Livin’ With Lex ‘n’ Layla, Deacon’s recovery concert, Jeff Fordham’s bean-counting relationship, Rayna’s album release and, of course, Why Is Gunnar Scott? What will happen in the dramatic, climactic finale of this second run of the show?
044 - ALL OR NOTHING WITH ME
Gunnar saw Juliett and Jeff Fordham the bean-counter from Harvard leave a screening room to appear in their own NC-17-rated movie, and Andrew is determined to list a whole bunch of other films they could have been in instead, whilst Johnny runs down an episode with Former First Lady Michelle Obama, the troops and Will Lexington’s new reality show.
043 - YOUR GOOD GIRL'S GONNA GO BAD
Oh dear, Scarlett’s had a bit of a breakdown, it’s almost like she knew what 2021 would be like and experienced it in 2014. Andrew and Johnny talk through her recovery, the further adventures of Gunnar Scott’s ascent in the financial world, and a few songs get a talking to for good measure.
042 - CRAZY
Things start to get out of hand on tour when Scarlett’s mother stops by, whilst the Teddy/Rayna/Deacon situation causes Nashville to enlist an EGOT winner, what a coup! Andrew and Johnny discuss Gunnar’s royalty cheque, and whether he even deserves any kind of money for his art.
041 - YOUR WILD LIFE'S GONNA GET YOU DOWN
What happens when a new single release is a flop, a big engagement announcement is questionably fast and two different fathers feud over how to parent their daughter? Well, you got yourself an episode of Nashville Season 2! That’s right, we’re talking Will Lexington going straight, Deacon versus Teddy and a side amount of Scarlett and Avery doing some good ol’ fashioned songwriting, Nashville style!
040 - WE'VE GOT THINGS TO DO
It’s Rayna’s record label launch party, and Andrew and Johnny aren’t invited. But don’t worry, from Backstage they can handle all the situations unfolding, from Teddy’s angry dad vibes to Deacon’s new potential gig, and of course whatever’s happening to hurt precious Scarlett in this week’s episode. Nobody must put her in danger, for she is the light that guides humanity to the next evolutionary step. Also, Will Lexington without a ha
039 - GUILTY STREET
Hanging out and watching Nashville Season 2, Episode 16, Andrew and Johnny break down Deacon’s road stories, Juliette’s record-label hunting, Scarlett and Liam’s relationship and Will Lexington in a hat. Some things never change, whilst other things change a lot. That’s a generic statement that is very true, as always.
038 - THEY DON'T MAKE 'EM LIKE DADDY ANYMORE
There’s a death in the family, and it’s shrouding the episode in HILARITY! Ahem, sadness… Yes. Scarlett’s starting an affair, the Bungalow Boys start a band, we go to LA to experience Randy Newman’s nightmare, and there’s a funeral to fix all the problems.
037 - TOO FAR GONE
We have Avery Barkley himself handling the audio recording as we capture the essence of the Bluebird for this week’s podcast. Deacon’s recording his own live album, the Bungalow Boys are dealing with Will Lexington’s closeted nature, Daddy is out of prison and Rayna has some stark revelations to deal with. It’s jam-packed drama all the way from Nashville.
036 - IT'S ALL WRONG, BUT IT'S ALL RIGHT
After a week hiatus, it’s back! Stage at the Bluebird, and we’re dealing with NASCAR cars, shelving spaces, Scarlett in Room and WINE POLICE! Is there an end to the drama of Juliette Barnes? Will Deacon get artists for his solo album? Can Andrew admit Gunnar’s creative juices are a positive aspect of his character? All will be revealed.
035 - JUST FOR WHAT I AM
It’s a late night at the Bluebird when Johnny recites an episode of Nashville involving busking, radio shows, a Number One party and Rascal Flats. Andrew’s Gunnar-patience is tested, whilst a game of ‘what even is this song?’ proves a breaking point for all involved.
034 - I'LL KEEP CLIMBING
Season 2 continues with the revelations and fallout from the midseason finale, who lives, who dies, who sings their story? Andrew remains hung up on if Gunnar Scott is, like, funny, or maybe has a big donger or something? Johnny runs through the highs, lows and mids of episode 11, and we discover new character Joe ‘Mama’ Mamasetto.
033 - SEASON 2 PART 1 SOUNDTRACK
Whilst we enjoy the break between the front 10 and the back 12, Andrew and Johnny have a little listen party to the soundtrack for the show, going track-by-track, laughing, loving, and maybe even singing along with it.
032 - TOMORROW NEVER COMES
On the season 2 Mid-Season finale Music City plays host to a Music Festival, where loves, businesses and gossip stories run rampant. Andrew is mopping up the juice and Johnny is dishing the deets, running through Jeff Fordham on Jeopardy, hair height of Gunnar Scott and multiple Tandy/Rayna sister hang-out scenes. Who will live? Who will die? Who will still be stuck in isolation?
031 - I'M TIRED OF PRETENDING
Oh mama is it getting messy in this drama, there’s couples breaking up, couples drinking hard, couples meeting up and daddy-daughter cycles to dirty up the waters too. Johnny runs through Season 2 Episode 9 of Nashville as Andrew considers the DMZ/TMZ gossip site feuds, Will Lexington’s hatless injury and the revenge of the shelving unit and Maddie Conrad.
030 - HANKY PANKY WOMAN
Luke ‘Hands Off The’ Wheeler is starting his stadium tour and Scarlett’s got a bit opener to go. Juliette’s kink-shaming a couple, Jeff’s counting beans, Gunnar’s writing a song, Rayna is spending time with men, and Teddy is the mayor of Nashville still. Andrew and Johnny spend time discussing the logistics of the ongoing Tampa-stadium-shows of it all, and prepare for another classic last-minute Rayna James Sorts Things Out With A Live Performance story beat.
029 - SHE'S GOT YOU
It’s tour season, and we’re in Houston, Texas, which is not in Nashville, for the Will Lexington/Layla Grant/Juliette Barnes concert opener, but also it’s Teddy’s wedding day, and Avery and Deacon’s open-mic show, oh and also Gunnar’s meeting with Jeff The Harvard Bean Counter. So much to get through, it’d be insane for Andrew and Johnny to pause recapping long enough to do any kind of comedic bits, right?
028 - IT MUST BE YOU
It’s the Invitational Polo Match in Nashville and it seems most people ARE invited! Deacon, Rayna, Juliette, Tandy, other characters, all together in a super-spreader event. Johnny talks through season 2 episode 6 of Nashville, detailing couple names, surprising relationship changes and all the big hat event fun, as Andrew becomes more and more averse to the relationships developing in the show.
027 - DON'T OPEN THAT DOOR
Rayna can’t sing and Deacon can’t play the guitar, but the magic of Nashville is that no matter what happens, Andrew and Johnny will always find the music in the soul of these characters. Maybe not so much Harvard Bean Counter Jeff, or Luke Whhhheeler and his big hats, but certainly the newly minted Bluebird Barback Bungalow Boys and Scarlett’s media training journey bring lots of mirth to this week’s episode.
